of 2012

Tax season is prime tax scam season. As the April filing deadline nears, criminals prey upon people's fears of making a tax return mistake or appeal to their desire to get a bigger refund.

Every year, the Internal Revenue Service issues its list of the dirty dozen worst tax scams. They range from improper application of real-but-arcane tax laws to downright false claims, along with perennial attempts to get individuals to provide personal information that can be used to steal identities.

The scams appear online, by email and in person. In some cases, taxpayers can't even trust their tax preparers.

"Get ahead in the Career Race!" is the theme for the 5th Annual Career Expo.  The event will be held at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester, OK, on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 10 am to 2 pm.  The Career Expo creates an opportunity for job seekers and students to connect with employers and college or training facility representatives at more than 150 booth spaces.  There will be something for everyone at the career expo!

*      Make a plan for which employers to visit and in what order - visit your target employers first

*      Arrive early

*      Bring copies of your Resume

*      Be prepared for an Interview

*      Be prepared to complete Employment Applications

*      Dress professionally and carry professional binder or brief case for your documents (don't fumble & drop items when getting your resume out)

*      Ask if you can send a follow-up letter or make a call

*      Collect contact information

*      Track to which employers you submitted resumes

*      Thank employers for their time & the opportunity to speak with them
